this has just come out on this months Gourmet traveller
have learnt some lessons in illustration over the last month or so:
- always ask for a written brief, even if the project os for a friend (especially if the project is for a friend)
- for publishing work, make sure a non-use fee is built into the contract... it seems to happen all too often that the book cover changes direction and all the concepts or final illustrations remain unused, through no fault of their own.
- start keeping records of time spent on projects to better estimate the fees for future projects.

today we went to see the reg mombassa exhibition at the SH Erwin gallery.
I've always loved his suburban landscapes of neat fibro houses and soft green lawns..it was fabulous to see them all in one space. some of his sketchbooks filled with charcoal drawings were also on display, very inspiring to see in real life...

those of you who've known me for a long toime know that when i lived in paris, every year i self published a calendar of drawings...each year based around a different theme, some of these drawings can be seen here.
since arriving back in australia (and working comercially as an illustrator, whereas in france i 'only' did architecture) these calendars have fallen by the wayside.
this year I produced about 10 of them which i gave as christmas presents... another birthday girl, sarah, got one today.

it reminded me of the forms we use for our mobiles, though they are slightly less complex, more organic.
