during my surfing today read an interview with matali crasset and saw images of the Hi Hotel which I've always liked... intrigued by the suspended basket like structure in the lobby, and in other images I've seen, the suitcase-like furniture with handles.....

rather silent on the blog front this week. lots of deadlines, illustrations and mobilet projects.

on monday we are delivering half of a huge (well, for us) order from the fabulous poliform store in sydney. an order of mobiles, limited edition, from mobilet. Our fifth series!

We've been making mobiles for years, but since we arrived in Sydney 3 years ago, we've started these limited editions of mobiles. Series 5 is made of of lasercut acrylic (a very juicy slection of colours...) and stainless steel wires.

the shapes and the wires are all painstakingly assembled by us, in our kitchen-atelier. lots of tasks, cleaning, drilling, inserting and creating hooks, and, like in the photo, carefully balancing each form so that they hang, magically, horizontally. float, really.

more photos of the process, and the finished products, to follow.

moving right along on the sydney series.... started this drawing a couple of days ago before heading to the windblown sculpture by the sea yesterday. at tamarama beach someone has created a fabulous melted icecream truck which drips off the path and onto the sand...

yesterday i found out that this illustration was to be used for a top secret project, not a book, not a magazine, but on a stationery item. given that i'm aiming to broaden my market beyond editorial work, I'm very happy.

this weekend we went to the St Judes aprish fete, just across the road. Some lovely lamingtons on a doily, a set of coloured tubs for téo and this fantastic book on rockets from 1953.

am working on a series of drawings, personal work for the first time virtually since I started illustrating, 2 years ago. The series is about sydney, this one is a frangipanni, iconic sydney flower, with a beautiful, tropical, heady perfume.....
